In the last chapters Bud saw that H.E.C. was collecting rocks just like Bud had. Then Bud showed Herman his rocks and he kept them in his hands real tight because he thought he stole them. So he asked Bud where he got the rocks. Bud told him "my mom gave them to me". Then Herman asked Bud what his mom's name was. So Bud told him and when he said her name it was his daughter's name. Bud thought that Herman was his father, but he was actually H.E.C's grandson. The whole rest of the book Herman was crying because his daughter died. They figured out that Bud was Herman's grandson. Bud even got an instrument from the band.
